Yokai of Aokigahara

The Aokigahara forest rests at the base of Japans Fuji mountain, also called Jukai; the sea of trees where there are many areas still left undiscovered. It is better known, however as suicide forest, romanticized as the most beautiful place to die. The Japanese government has recently stopped counting how many bodies are now found within these trees, especially since Mount Fuji has now been declared a world heritage site for fear of detouring visitors.
Due to the many lost souls that never make it out, it is said to be one of the most haunted locations in the world.  When someone dies according to Japanese folklore they must have a proper burial where their soul or spirit can then leave purgatory and protect the family they have left behind. However, if you die in a violent manner and this includes suicide, especially when dying with such strong emotions such as hate or sorrow your soul then becomes what is known as a Yurei. The Yurei is said to be a spirit in turmoil, if proper rituals or emotional healing can be done for the Yurei then they can transition on to the next, if not however, they continue on with their haunting.
There are also legends of the Yokai  which are said to be supernatural beings that are different then your regular ghost. The Yokai can be malevolent, tricksters and on occasion bring you good luck.

The photos below have been found on pinterest and google images. They depict the Aokigahara forest and show where certain trails have been marked off. There is a book that directs those who wish to commit suicide to the Aokigahara forest and tells them which trails are best to take, so they have been marked off as No Entry. The ribbons that are often found all over the forest are left behind from those who were not sure. They take a ball of ribbon and walk deep into the forest to then decide, leaving a trail for how to get out if they change their mind.

If you feel you are in need or know someone who considering suicide please seek help.
